Course Unit Description

This module deals and give introduction to Database management system, relational database model, Database manipulation using relational algebra, Data manipulation using sql, Data views, Data security, Data normalization process and the normal forms.

Expected Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, learners should be able to;

  • Describe the evolution, the role and the three schemes architecture of database systems
  • Explain the fundamental concepts of the relational model, including relations, attributes, domains, keys, foreign keys, entity integrity and referential integrity.
  • Formulate solutions to specific types of queries in relational algebra.
  • Describe types of security and threats to database systems.
