Course Unit Description

The course covers introductory principles of geometrical optics; reflection and refraction, thin lenses and optical instruments.

Course Objectives
By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  • Explain the principles of optics
  • Describe  the characteristics of images formed by concave and convex mirrors;
  • State the relationship between u.v.f. and r. in spherical mirrors and use it to solve numerical problems
  • Explain the characteristics of phenomena caused by reflection and refraction and solve problems
