Course Unit Description

In Purchasing for resale, what you buy is what you sell. Buyers therefore have to take several factors into account. The cost, type of merchandise to stock, pricing and location of the retail business are all important factors. Purchasing for resale can also be referred to as retail purchasing. Basically, the course consists of three parts: Part one is concerned with the structure of retailing, the relationship between customers and the retailer and the methods of researching that interact; Part two is devoted to the retail mix, the special blend strategies that a retailer can use to appeal to target customers; and Part three deals with the administrative side of retailing, demonstrating that planning, particularly financial planning and measurement of performance are just as vital in purchasing for resale as any other business enterprise.
