Course Unit Description

The course exposes the postgraduate students to research methods, in order to familiarize them with concepts, language, procedure, ethics and discipline of the research process at postgraduate level.

Course Objectives
By the end of the course the students should be able to:

  • Explain the meaning, purpose, and types of research
  • Explain the identification, and statement of research problems, variables, objectives, questions and hypotheses
  • Explain sampling procedures, data collection, analysis and presentation methods
  • Explain the social science research ethics

Learning Outcomes
A successful completion of this course should enable the candidate to 

  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the meaning, purposes and types of research
  • Exhibit expertise in identifying and stating research problems, variables, objectives, research questions, and hypotheses 
  • Demonstrate competence in explaining sampling procedures, data collection procedures, data analysis strategies and presentation styles.
  • Follow and execute research ethics
  • Write a research proposal and dissertation
