SCS3202 Information Security
Course Unit Description
The course introduces basic computer and network security concepts and methodologies. Covers principles of security; compliance and operational security; threats and vulnerabilities; network security; application, data, and host security; access control and identity management; and cryptography. This course covers the fundamental concepts and practical applications of computing systems security with a holistic view and an applied approach.
Course Objectives
- Introducing students to the concepts of Information Assurance and how to secure such
- information using appropriate systems and technologies.
- Presenting introductory aspects on confidentiality, integrity, authentication, nonrepudiation, intrusion detection, physical security, and encryption.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course unit, the students will be able to:
- Have a good understanding of the information assurance issues of an Enterprise.
- Have a firm grasp of the concepts related to Information Assurance and be able to articulate the salient principles about Information Assurance that derive from the concepts.
- Contextualize knowledge on Information Assurance and Security under different settings.
