DHB2101 Further Organic Chemistry
Course Unit Title
DHB2101 Further Organic Chemistry
Course Unit Description
The chemistry of aromatic hydrocarbons with emphasis on benzene is discussed including some of its reactions. The preparation, classification and some reactions of aliphatic alcohols, including test tube practical tests will be carried out to help students internalize the chemical reactions.
Course Objectives
By the end of this unit, students should be able to:
- Differentiate aliphatic aromatic hydrocarbons.
- Write the structure of benzene.
- Explain the structure of benzene; using concept of delocalization of electrons
- Describe some chemical properties of benzene
- Classify, draw the structure and name the different types of alcohols.
- Get familiar with simple reactions of alcohol importance.
