PSY7204 Advanced Psychological Testing
Course Unit Description
The course introduces students to psychological testing including tests that measure various psychological constructs, the assessment process and the interpretation of tests. Factors affecting assessment and interpretation of testing and alternative explanation of test results are critical components of the course. Students will take a variety of tests to experience both sides of the test administration.
Course Objectives
- Describes the statistical concepts and methods used in the construction of standardized tests.
- Evaluates the statistical concepts and methods used in the construction of standardized tests.
- Describes and articulate ethical issues involved in psychological testing.
- Accounts for the procedure involved in selecting, administering, and scoring psychological tests
- Explicates the factors involved in assessing students from different backgrounds.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
- Describe the statistical concepts and methods used in the construction and evaluation of standardized tests
- Explain the legitimate purposes, misuses, and limitations of psychological testing
- Identify an awareness of the ethical issues involved in psychological testing
- Describe the procedures for selecting, administering, and scoring selected psychological tests.
- Interpret the results of psychological tests in educationally relevant terms for parents and teachers
- Explicate the factors involved in assessing students from diverse cultural, ethnic, racial, and linguistic backgrounds.
