Course Unit Description

This course provides learners with an understanding of the meaning of Natural resource economics and its principles, importance, and state of natural resources, introduces the concept of sustainable natural resources use and sustainability. It provides knowledge and skills on the economics of renewable and non-renewable resources. Environmental laws, policies and regulation in Uganda, international environment and natural resources conventions and treaties and environment impact assessments are presented and discussed.

 

Course Objective

The course is intended to equipped learners with knowledge and skills in natural resource economics, apply the economic principles to renewable and non-renewable resources and explain the principles of environment impact assessment and management.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course, the learners should be able to:

  • Explain the principles of natural resource economics
  • Apply economic tools and techniques to management of natural resources
  • Explain the principles of environment impact assessment and environmental audits.
  • Discuss the international laws and treaties governing global resources.
  • Appreciate the role of GIS in environmental studies and planning.
