Course Unit Description

This course covers ASP.NET development fundamentals, providing hands-on experience through the building of a fully functional time and expense tracking application like TimeEx.
Starting with an overview of server-side technologies, it then goes into the C# (C Sharp) programming language commonly used for ASP.NET and database development utilizing MSDE (Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine). Particular attention is given to techniques for integrating ASP.NET pages with the advanced client-side (DHTML) technologies covered first.

Course Objectives
At the end of this course, students should be able to:

  • Familiar with the .Net development environment
  • Apply core ASP.NET technologies to web application development
  • Write server-side ASP.NET code
  • Create web applications that use ADO.NET to interact with SQL Server

Learning outcomes
On completion of this course unit, the students will be able to:

  • Set up a Net development including environment, including MSDE
  • Apply core ASP.NET technologies to develop Web applications
  • Author server-side ASP.NET code in C#
  • Create Web applications using ADO.NET to interact with SQL Server; and
  • Write ASP.NET pages that integrate into traditional DHTML-driven pages
